Dealing With A Sports Injury? Kinesio Taping Can Help You Heal!
Get Back Into the Game With Kinesio Taping
Have you suffered from an injury or condition that is affecting your everyday life? Pain can sometimes be so debilitating that it makes daily tasks much more difficult than they used to be.
That is why we, Newcastle Physiotherapy and Sports Rehab, offer treatments like Kinesio taping to help alleviate pain, promote healing, increase strength and range of motion, and most importantly, get you back to comfortably living your normal life.
What to expect from Kinesio taping treatments
Our Newcastle, ON physiotherapists will implement a variety of exercises and modalities in their treatment plans, based on your specific needs. Kinesio taping is among these modalities, used to improve your mobility and provide support to your muscles, joints and tendons.
Our physiotherapist will perform a thorough assessment at your first visit, which will aid in determining if Kinesio taping is the best option for your treatment plan. The physiotherapist will then explain how it will benefit your journey toward recovery and the step-by-step process that you will go through to get there.
They will apply Kinesio taping to the affected region of your body, as well as any other parts of your body where you might be experiencing discomfort or stiffness.
Many of our patients have found that Kinesio taping has helped them return to a comfortable daily life with no residual discomfort or stiffness!
If you think you could benefit from Kinesio taping, please schedule an appointment at Newcastle Physiotherapy and Sports Rehab today!
What are the benefits of Kinesio taping?
Kinesio taping helps to restore function by fixing damaged connections between the skin and the muscles, joints, and tendons below. It helps to reset the circuitry in the affected part of the body. As a result, muscle strength and movement increase.
Kinesio taping also works by preventing pain receptors from reaching the brain. The muscles in the affected region will relax and the risk of spasms will decrease dramatically if these painful signals are not received.
Pressure restricts blood flow and movement in the affected region, but when the pain is relieved, blood flow and movement are restored.
There are many reasons why Kinesio taping may be useful to you in your healing journey! These include, but are not limited to:
Management of scar tissue
This is an especially common treatment after an injury, surgery, or another type of trauma has occurred. Healing from trauma can cause a thick band of scar tissue to form over the affected area, which can inhibit signals of movement. Kinesio taping can provide a much-needed stretch to the scar tissue, making the signals of movement easier to communicate, and thus increasing your mobility.
Joint stabilization
Some conditions may make it difficult for joints to stay in place.
Kinesio taping can help stabilize and provide support for these joints, while still allowing them to move around their intended range of motion.
Pain relief
One of the most important benefits of Kinesio taping is the reduction of pressure. The brain no longer receives painful messages from the affected area because pain receptors are suppressed, allowing the muscles to relax.
This allows for more mobility, quicker recovery, and a more relaxing treatment experience overall.
Less swelling
Kinesio taping helps to decrease swelling caused by surgery, injury, or overuse by limiting the pressure between the skin and the tissues underneath.
This allows any buildup of fluid to travel freely and promotes easier movement of the affected area.
