With the COVID-19 pandemic, access to healthcare services is critical. With physiotherapists being primary care healthcare providers, we needed to adapt and have our services accessible to our community. Digital healthcare is here, and we are proud at Newcastle Physiotherapy and Sports Rehab to add online consults or tele-rehabilitation to our services! Whether for safety or mobility reasons, you live remotely or simply just for the convenience and comfort of treatment from your home, we are here to help and virtual physiotherapy is an excellent option!
For more information on our virtual physiotherapy services and how they may benefit you, feel free to call us at (905) 987-7778, schedule a telehealth appointment with our website chatbot, OR click here to schedule your virtual appointment!
Virtual Therapy vs In-person Therapy
A physiotherapist can still provide supportive care virtually. Some of the benefits are as follows:
Acute Injuries and Early Access:
Physiotherapists do not need a physician’s referral and if you have a recent injury and cannot see your physician right away, we are here to help! Early education, guidance and a home exercise program via our digital platform are a few ways we can help reduce your pain and assist in your recovery.
Post-surgical Rehab:
Often after a surgery you are unable to safely get to a clinic for your therapy. Virtual is a great way to get you started on your post-op program and prevent deconditioning and delayed recovery.
Work from home set-up:
This is actually a huge benefit of virtual since we can see your workspace! The physiotherapist can give you ergonomic advice to minimize aches and pains as well as education on posture and helpful stretching exercises.
Home Workouts:
If you started to work out from home and need guidance on proper technique or exercises prescription, we can help!
Follow-up Sessions:
If you were in-clinic working with one of our therapists and want to review your exercises or have specific questions, a virtual session is a great way to follow-up conveniently without an interruption in your program of care.
How does it work?
It can be by phone or via a secure video platform which meets the standards for health information privacy in Ontario and Canada.
After booking your appointment, you will receive an email with consent form(s) and possible questionnaire(s). Be sure to review and complete these forms prior to your appointment.
What does the patient need?
A computer, tablet or smartphone with a webcam.
A comfortable place in your home with some room if needed to perform movements or exercises and any exercise equipment you may need.
During a session, your physiotherapist will:
• Listen and discuss your concerns, evaluate your problem and formulate a diagnosis
• Evaluate your range of motion and functional movements
• Prescribe a digital home exercise program and monitor your progress and symptoms
• Observe exercises and provide feedback
• Educate you with respect to your injury/healing/prognosis/exercises
How do we pay for it?
Most extended healthcare plans will cover virtual physiotherapy and accept direct billing.
We also accept visa, mastercard, debit and e-transfers.
Ready to get started?
The worst seems to be behind us in this pandemic, however, we don’t know what lies ahead.
